The affairs of the Academy are managed by an honorary and non-salaried Presidium. All aspects of the management of the Academy’s affairs are handled in accordance with the Statutes, the rules of procedure of the Presidium and an election charter. The members of the Presidium are elected by the Senate. Their term is five years and they can be re-elected once for a further term.
The Presidium has twelve members and is led by a President. Professor Jörg Hacker has been President since 1 March 2010. He is the 26th President in the existence of the Leopoldina. The Presidium usually meets once every month and prepares and discusses all important decisions of the Academy.
